Hi there!

Bogdan Sandu, founder of WPDeanMy name is Bogdan Sandu. I’ve been building websites with WordPress since 2008, first as a publisher and then as a developer.

I know, the grey hairs on my head say that’s a long time ago.

WPDean is where I publish what I’ve learned since then: the guides, the free tools and the code I wish I’d had when I started.

What is WPDean?

WPDean is a resource hub for web designers and developers. It started as a WordPress blog and grew to cover web design as a whole: layout, typography, color, CSS, accessibility and the tools you use every day.

Here’s what you’ll find on the site:

Who writes WPDean

I do. WPDean is run by me, Bogdan Sandu, a web designer and front-end developer. I write the articles, and I build and maintain the tools and the UI kit.

My career started in 2008 with WordPress, building fast, lean websites for my own projects and then for clients. Since then I’ve moved into the full web design stack, and the part I enjoy most is turning a complicated idea into something people find easy to use.

  • Background: I have a degree in economics, but web design came first. I started in high school with small websites and moved on to bigger projects quickly.
  • Work: I’ve built a large number of custom, SEO-optimized WordPress themes, including the one this site runs on, and I’ve led teams designing responsive sites for clients.
  • Skills: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, WordPress theme development, Tailwind CSS and responsive design.

Published work

Before WPDean, and alongside it, I’ve written for some of the best-known web design publications:

  • Design Your Way
  • Designmodo
  • Web Designer Depot
  • Web Design Ledger
  • Vandelay Design and Speckyboy, among others

I also share free code snippets on CodePen. You can use them in your own projects.

How the content is made

Every guide on WPDean is written or reviewed by me, based on work I’ve done myself. A few rules I follow:

  • Code gets tested. Snippets and examples are run in the browser before they’re published. The tools are tested before they go live, and they get fixed when something breaks.
  • Sources are linked. When an article relies on a spec, a study or a statistic, it links to the original source, such as MDN, the W3C or the WCAG guidelines.
  • Old content gets updated or removed. Web design moves fast. I review older articles, rewrite the ones that are still useful and take down the ones that aren’t.
  • Mistakes get corrected. If you spot an error, email me at bogdan@wpdean.com and I’ll fix it.

Why WPDean exists

I want WPDean to be the place you come back to when you need a quick answer or a tool that just works: converting a unit, picking an accessible color palette, understanding a CSS property or fixing a broken WordPress site. Whether you’re building your first website or your hundredth, the goal is the same: less time searching, more time building.
