Thrive Leads offers so many options that if you are a beginner, you might be confused about how to get started. Let me make it easier for you. Here are the basic steps of creating and displaying an opt-in with Thrive Leads –

  • Create a lead group
  • Add an opt-in form
  • Set up the opt-in form
  • Display the opt-in form

I will discuss each of these steps one by one. Let’s get started with creating a lead group.

Creating a New Lead Group

To create a new lead group, navigate to the Thrive Dashboard -> Thrive Leads page. Find out the “Lead Groups” section and click the “Add New” button.

Provide a name for your group and click “Add Lead Group“. This will create and show the lead group on the WordPress dashboard.

Adding an Opt-in Form

Once you have added a lead group, the next step is to create an opt-in form. To do that, click the “Add New Type of Opt-in Form” button. This opens up a pop-up asking you what type of form you want to create.

As you can see, Thrive Leads supports nine types of forms –

  1. In Content
  2. Lightbox
  3. Post Footer
  4. Ribbon
  5. Screen Filler
  6. Scroll Mat
  7. Slide in
  8. Widget
  9. PHP Insert

Click on a type to create a form of that type. This will create and add the form to the lead group.

Setting up the Opt-in

The next step is to add a form. To do that, click the “Add” icon. You will be asked to provide a name for the form. Then, you have to edit the design of the form. Click the pencil icon to open the design options in a new window.

At this point, you have to choose the template for the form. Thrive Builder comes with several ready-made templates. Browse the available templates and choose the suitable one. It is also possible to choose from the saved templates or Thrive Template Cloud.

The next window is for editing the template. Click on any element to edit that content. Depending on the element, you can edit the text, replace images, edit the buttons, and so on. You can set custom margin, padding, add a custom class, choose the font, color, set alignments for the elements.

It is also possible to add new elements to the template. You will find a list of the available elements on the right-column.

Depending on your requirements, you can add simple elements like text, image, button, icon, custom HTML or CSS code; multi-style elements like column layout, content box, social share buttons, divider, testimonial, CTA; or advanced elements like pricing table, toggle section, Google Map, countdown timer, Table of Content, comments, responsive video, etc.

There are general options like undo, redo, HTML view, save the template, choose another template, and so on.

Once you have made the necessary customizations, click “Save Changes“. Use the “Preview” button to check out a preview of the form.

Displaying the Opt-in

So far, you have created a lead group, chosen the opt-in form type, and created the actual opt-in. Now, you have to display the opt-in.

There are two places to set the display options –

  1. In the opt-in form and
  2. The lead group.

First of all, the opt-in form enables you to set the trigger, display frequency, and animation for the form.

You can choose from variously available triggers like displaying on page load, after a specific period, after a specific amount of scrolling, clicking on an element, reaching the bottom of the page, or use the exit-intent.

In display frequency, you can choose the number of days after when the form will be displayed to the visitor again.

Lastly, you can choose an animation for the opt-in form. The available options include various styles of zoom, slide, 3D slit, 3D rotate, bounce, slip, blur, etc.

Once you have chosen the display options for the opt-in, the next step is to choose the display options for the lead group. To do that, click on the settings icon for your desired lead group.

Thrive Leads offer a large number of conditions for displaying the opt-in form. You can choose to display or hide the opt-in on the front page, all posts, all pages, search page, 404 page, specific categories, tags, particular posts, pages, page templates, post types, archive pages, all logged in or all logged out visitors.

The plugin also offers separate options to display or hide your opt-in on the desktop and mobile devices. Once you set up this option, your opt-in form is all set up for display.

Using the Lead Shortcodes

Thrive Leads also comes with a built-in shortcode feature. This feature enables you to display custom opt-in forms on any place you want.

To get started, go to Thrive Dashboard -> Thrive Leads, and locate the “Lead Shortcodes” section. Click “Add New“, provide a name for the shortcode, and click “Add Lead Shortcode“.

Next, click the edit icon for that shortcode. Create a form and provide a name for the form. The next options are similar to the opt-in creation process I described above. You choose a template, edit the template, and save the changes.

You can create more than one opt-in form for a single shortcode. The plugin will randomly display the forms and keep detailed statistics about their performance.

You will find the shortcode in the “Lead Shortcodes” section. Copy the shortcode and paste it into your post, page, text widget, or any other location where you want to display the opt-in form.

For advanced users, you can get the PHP code to display the opt-in form on any location on your website.

Using the Thrive Boxes

Thrive Boxes is an interesting feature of Thrive Leads. When using this feature, the visitor has to click a link to open the opt-in form.

You will find the “Thrive Boxes” section in the Thrive Dashboard -> Thrive Leads page. Click “Add New“, and provide a name for the box.

Next, you will find the familiar set of options – adding the form, choosing a template, editing the template, saving the form, etc.

Once you have set up the opt-in form, get back to the Thrive Boxes section. Find the box you just created and copy its shortcode. You can use this shortcode inside any post, page, widget, or other location. The opt-in will be triggered when the visitor clicks the link.

Using the Signup Segue

The Thrive Leads plugin comes with another unique feature named Signup Segue. This feature enables you to offer a one-click sign-up option for various events, promotions, services, or other use cases.

The traditional method requires the visitors to sign up with you first, and then sign up again for the webinar, promotion, events, etc. Signup Segue enables you to remove the redundancy and sign up the visitors with one-click.

You can show a confirmation page once the sign up is completed. It is possible to use this page for promoting affiliate products, offers, provide links to your latest blog posts, show social sharing buttons, etc.

Checking up the Statistics

Thrive Leads offer detailed statistics about your opt-in forms. You will find a daily summary at the top of the Thrive Dashboard -> Thrive Leads page. The summary includes the total number of unique impressions, the number of conversions, and conversion rate for the day.

Click on the “View More” section to check more details about any of these reports. You can choose any time interval including the last seven days, 30 days, this month, last month, this year, last year, or use a custom date range.

It is possible to filter the results by the lead groups, shortcodes, or boxes. You can set the graph to show the daily, weekly, or monthly data.

You will find detailed information about the subscribers at the bottom of the page. For each subscriber, you will find the name/email address, subscription date and time, source, form type, and a link to check the relevant opt-in form.
