It is hard to imagine a modern WordPress theme without any monetization option. Nexus is not any different here. The theme comes with dedicated advertisements spaces in various parts of your site. You can manage the ad spaces from the theme options section.

Nexus Theme Design

The actual theme depends on your design requirements. However, the default theme demo looks very attractive. When you load the theme demo for the first time, you will be greeted with an impressive grid design of the featured posts.

On top, you will find the usual navigation menu and the social media links. There is also an advertisement space on the header.

Just below the featured posts, the grid-based layout continues. You will find recent posts from specific categories, recent posts, popular posts, recent videos, recent comments, recent reviews, meta, etc. in different layouts. All the sections are provided with stunning mouse hover effects.

The footer can accommodate up to four widgets. And there is a footer menu too. You can set the menu and widgets from the admin section of your website.

The single posts, tags, and category pages share the same sidebar. You can customize the sidebar by using different Widgets from the Appearance -> Widgets page.

Customizing the Theme

Once you install and activate the theme, it will create two new sub-menus under the Appearance menu –

  1. Nexus Homepage Builder and
  2. Nexus Theme Options.

Let’s take a look the homepage builder first.

Nexus Homepage Builder

As the name suggests, this page enables you to build the home page. To access this page, go to Appearance -> Nexus Homepage Builder. In the resulting page, you will find four modules –

  1. Add Recent Posts
  2. Add Popular Posts
  3. Add Recent Reviews
  4. Add Recent Posts From Several Categories

All of these modules are self-explanatory. Let me show how you can use them on the front page.

To use any of these modules, click on the module name. This will open the configuration options for the module. For each module, you can choose the source and the number of modules to display.

And if you don’t want to display a module, you have to click on the ‘Delete this module‘ link. After making the changes, click the ‘Save Changes‘ button.

And that’s how you personalize the home page of your website. Now, let’s see how to customize the whole site by using the theme options.

Nexus Theme Options

To access the theme options page, go to the Appearance -> Nexus Theme Options page. You will be taken to a page like the following –

As you can see, the options are divided into several sections. I will walk you through the main sections. Let’s start with the first one.

In the General area, you will find options to choose a custom logo, favicon and header section background. You can select various social media icons followed by the fields for social media URL.

Then, there is a separate field for choosing how many posts should be displayed in the category, archive, search and tag pages. Other useful options include the date format and the Custom CSS field.

In this area, you can enable the 3-column layout for the home page. And then, you can choose to display only the specific categories if the blog page is set as the home page.

Featured Posts

There are only two options in this area. First one lets you choose to display the features posts. And then, you can choose the features posts category.

After making the necessary changes, ensure that you have clicked the ‘Save‘ button.

In this section, you will find three areas – Pages, Categories, and General settings. From these areas, you can choose to exclude specific pages and categories from the navigation menu. You will also find various options to choose the sorting options, a number of drop-down tiers, etc.

Layout Settings

The layout settings section is also divided into three areas – Single Post Layout, Single Page Layout, and General Settings. For the single post, you can choose to display or hide the author, date, comments, and categories. And for the single page, you can choose to enable or disable to comment.

Ad Management

Other than the widget-based advertisements, Nexus also comes with three other advertisement locations in the header, single post, and footer. In this section, you can manage the un-widgetized advertisement placements.

Once you have enabled any of these ads, you can define the image URL, description and target URL for the ad. There is also a separate field for providing the AdSense code.

This is the last section I will discuss. Like the other sections, this one is also divided into three areas – Homepage SEO, Single Post Page SEO, and Index PageSEO.

For the homepage and regular posts and pages, you can enable custom title, meta description, meta keywords, and canonical URL. And for the index page, you can choose to enable canonical URL’s and meta descriptions. All these settings are optimal for best search engine rankings. Instead you can use some other SEO plugins to boost your SEO ranks even more.
