You need a CloudPress account to create a website on the platform. Once you have created the account and logged in to your CloudPress account, you can create a new site by clicking the “+ Create New Site‘ button. On the next page, you will be asked to choose a name, language, and a theme for your website.

At the time of writing this review, there are 13 themes available. You can choose any of these themes or start with a blank theme. Once you have made the choices, click the “Create Site” button. This will create the project inside CloudPress.

When the site is created, you will be redirected to a page like the following –

Clicking the “Design the Site” button will take you to the designing screen. We will discuss that in the next section.

Getting Started with the Design

Once you have clicked the “Design the Site” button, you will be taken to a page like the following –

As you can see, there are lots of options here. On the top section, there are some buttons and icons. Let’s take a minute to understand their purposes.

The first one is titled “Pages“. This Shows the existing pages of your website. Then, “Add Blocks” allows you to add various sections to your website. “Add Elements” allows you to add individual elements to your website.

The next set of options include some buttons to test your website on mobile, tablet, and desktop resolutions. The settings button will open the page settings box.

On the right side, you will find three icons to get back to CloudPress dashboard, get back to your WordPress admin and check out the page preview. Lastly, the far-right corner of the page hosts the undo, redo, save, and close icons.

Now that you are familiar with the available options let’s find out how to create a fully customized page.

Creating a Customized Page

Here, the first step is to choose the page you will customize. To do that, click the “Pages” button. This will open a sidebar containing the existing pages.

The pages are divided into three categories –

  1. Site pages
  2. Blog Pages
  3. Apps Pages

Each category includes several pages. You can customize any page you want. It is also possible to create new pages. I will cover that in the next section.

At this point, you have chosen which page you are going to customize. Each page comes with some default styling. You can keep or edit these according to your requirements.

The page is divided into several sections – header, content, sidebar, and footer. You can design any section by just clicking on that section.

You can add any block or element you want in the sections. To insert a block, click the “Add Blocks” button. This will open the available blocks.

The drop-down menu located at the top allows you to filter the blocks by different categories like header, navigation, slider, features, testimonials, clients, pricing, footer, etc. Choose your desired category and the related blocks will be displayed below.

There is a preview icon on the right side of each block. Hover your mouse over that icon and you can check out how the block looks on your site.

You can use the block on your website by clicking the “Use This …” button. Depending on the block you have chosen, there will be several elements. You can edit any of the elements by clicking on them. There will be options to choose the text style, background image, and to move, duplicate, or edit the element.

It is possible to add more sections and blocks before or after the block(s) you already added. To do that, click the “+” icon on the top-left or bottom-left corners of the block. When using more than one blocks in a single section, make sure that you are arranging them in the right order.

If you don’t like the default block styles or want to create a unique design, you can do that by adding custom elements. You can add custom elements by clicking the ‘Add Elements’ button. This will show the available elements.

The available elements are divided into several categories like basic, common, social, widgets, blog posts, portfolio, team, clients, etc.

Find the element you want to use. Drag the element and drop it in your desired location. Depending on the element type, you can edit the text, color, background, size, etc.

While making changes, you can check the page on various screen resolutions by clicking the mobile and tablet icons above. It is also possible to check out the actual preview by clicking the preview icon.

Once you have made the necessary changes, click the “Save” icon on the top-left corner of the screen. You can customize the layout for each of your pages by selecting them from the “Pages” section on the top-right corner.

Creating a New Page/Template

Along with the default page and templates, it is also possible to create new page and templates for your website.

To create a new page, click the “Pages” section on the top-right corner of your screen. This opens the page listing. At the top of the listing, there is an article titled “Site Pages“. There is also a “+” icon beside the title. Click on that icon. This will open a window for creating a new page.

You can provide a title, choose a parent, and set the page as the home page. Then, you can choose the layout for the page. The available layouts include full-width, full-width with a sidebar on the left or right sides, two sidebars, left or right sidebars, centered page, landing page, etc.

Once you have made the choices, click the “Create Page” button. This will create the page and take you to the editing screen for the page.

The same page also allows you to create a new template. To do that, click the “Create a new template” button at the bottom. This will lead to another window where you will be asked to provide a name and optionally, choose an existing template to start with.

Transferring Your Website

When I was discussing the settings options, there was a section titled “Transfer“. There was a button titled “Download CloudPress Sync Plugin” on that section.

Clicking the button will download a zipped WordPress plugin. You need this plugin to migrate your CloudPress website to another host.

Download the plugin to your computer. Log into the WordPress dashboard of the new site. Upload and install the plugin. Once you activate the plugin, it will take you to a page like the following –

I purchased a lifetime subscription a couple of months ago and was planning to set up a business creating basic websites for small businesses. Although I haven’t created a website yet, I am suddenly concerned about CloudPress as a company. They advertise my plan as including ‘all themes free’ and ‘at least one new theme added each month’. However, they have not added any new themes since I signed up. To make things worse they recently sent a mail shot advertising ten new themes for a ‘one time payment of £40’ (I might have got that figure slightly wrong). This is very poor and I will take it to trading standards if they don’t offer these free to me as advertised. Currently they have failed to respond to my complaint about these issues. BUYER BEWARE.
