Among them, “Auction Theme” includes all the options for controlling and customizing your auction site. And the “Auctions page” lets you manage the auctions.

Customizing the Theme

There are 22 sub-menus of the Auction Theme menu. While it is not possible to discuss them in details, I will briefly talk about each of them. Let’s start with the site summary.

How to Add a New Auction

To add a new auction, go to Auction -> Add New Auction. You can hover over the ‘+ New’ link on the top menu and select ‘Auction’. Both of them will take you to a page like the following –

First of all, there are the usual title and description fields. Then, you will find separate fields for the excerpt, author, any custom field, auction images and the shipping method. For the shipping, you can choose flat shipping or variable shipping.

On the right side, there are additional configuration options for the auction. In the ‘Auction Details’ section, you can set the renewal options, start price, reserve price, buy now price and quantity. You can also choose to feature the auction, allow offers and set the end date.

And at the bottom, there are separate options for choosing the tags, category, location, shipping options and featured image for the auction.

After making all the necessary changes, click ‘Publish’. This will add the auction into the auctions list of your site.

Managing Auctions

You will find a list of all auction in the Auctions -> Auctions page. This page will display the auctions along with all the relevant information. For each auction, you will find the title, author, tags, date, the number of comments, price, expiry date, and the thumbnail for each auction.

Hovering over the auction name will provide some additional options – edit, quick edit, trash, and view.

Exploring the Theme Outlook

Now, let’s take a look at the actual outlook of the theme. I have added two sample auctions on my test site. And this is how the front page looks –

As you can see, the available auctions are listed on the front page. All auctions will have a ‘Read More’ button. And for the auction(s) you post, there will be two additional buttons – Edit Auction and Delete. I guess I don’t have to explain them. Each auction also has a button for adding the item to your watchlist.

On the right side of the auction, you will find the necessary information like the starting price, buy now price, the number of bids, time of posting and expiry date.

Clicking on the auction title or the read more button will open the auction. In the auction page, you will find all the available details about the item. If there are images available, you can view them by clicking on the images. Below, you will find the description, number of bids, image gallery and location of the item in Google Maps.

If you want to place a bid, you have to provide your amount in the box right below the current bid price. Then, clicking the ‘Place Bid’ button will take care of the rest.

On the right side, you will find seller information, shipping charges, and other details. There are two buttons too. Among them, the ‘Contact Seller’ button lets you send a private message to the seller. And the ‘Report Auction’ section lets you report problematic auctions.
