Listable Review – An Easy to Use Directory WordPress Theme

Listable is a widely popular WordPress directory listing theme. The smart and unique features of the theme allows you to create fully featured directory sites within a short period. If you are thinking about creating a directory listing site, this theme could easily be one of your top choices.

Being a modern theme, Listable comes with an attractively designed home page and other pages. The home page begins with a full-screen video background. There is a large search box on top of the background. And on the bottom side, some favorite categories are included.

Down below, there are a few more sections to display listings and user submitted entries in different categories, locations, and other sorting options.

Featuring close integration with OpenStreetMap, all the category pages display the available listings in a grid view along with an interactive map. The single listing view also features a unique design. At the top, there is a slideshow of the listing images. The listing page includes a small map for getting easy direction to the location.

Listable also comes with a dedicated blog page. The page displays your blog entries in a grid layout. And the single blog posts feature a simple design. There is no sidebar to distract the attention of the visitor. As social sharing is integrated with the theme, you won’t have to use any third-party plugin for this purpose.

Customization Options

Once you install and activate the theme, you will be informed about some necessary plugins. Install and activate those plugins to make full use of various features of the theme.

Like most modern WordPress themes, all the customization options of the Listable theme is located in the Appearance -> Customize page. The sections look like the following –

The first option is titled ‘Theme Options‘. It has several sub-sections. Among them, ‘General‘ allows you to provide a custom footer copyright text. ‘Custom JavaScript‘ could be used to insert JavaScript codes into the header and footer sections. And the last one, ‘Demo Data‘ could be used to import demo data to your website. This option will be useful if you are in a hurry and want to get your website started quickly.

The next option is titled ‘Colors‘. And this one also has several sub-sections. ‘Site Header’ allows you to choose the colors for header background, site title, search, nav link, nav active, nav button etc. ‘Main Content‘ includes options to choose custom colors for the content background, page background, page titles, page subtitles, text, and buttons.

Other Colors‘ section enables you to choose the accent color, meta fields color, and micro-elements colors.

The ‘Fonts‘ section allows you to select custom fonts for various areas like the site title, navigation text, body text, page titles, page subtitles, meta & forms, etc. Depending on the text location, it is possible to customize various options like the font family, weight, size, text transform style and letter spacing.

And if you don’t have the time to create a custom styling for your site, you can use any of the built-in styles. You will find the styles in the ‘Style Presets‘ section. Click on any preset to view a preview of your website in that style.

The ‘CSS Editor‘ section opens a panel where you can provide custom CSS code for your website. If you have got some experience with CSS, this is the easiest way to make design changes in your website.

Site Identity‘ hosts the usual options like the site title, tagline, logo and the site icon. ‘Menus,’ the next one allows you to choose the primary menu for your website. ‘Widgets’ enables you to choose widgets for the footer section. And ‘Static Front Page‘ allows you to select a custom front page for your website.

After making changes in any of these sections, you have to click the ‘Save & Publish‘ button. Otherwise, your changes will be lost.

How To Manage Theme Listings?

Being a directory theme, you can expect Listable to come with strong list management options. And the theme depends on Automattic’s WP Job Manager plugin to add and manage these features. The plugin comes with all the necessary options for adding and managing your listings.

In order to add a new listing, go to the Listings -> Add New page from your website dashboard. You will be taken to a page which is very similar to the new post page. At the top of the page, you will find the usual sections for providing the title and main description of the listing. The listing details options are located just below these sections.

The ‘Listing Data’ section hosts the necessary fields for providing additional information about your listing. The first few fields allow you to provide a custom company tagline and provide the location, business hours, contact number, website, and Twitter handle of the enterprise.

There is also a checkbox to make the listing featured. The featured listing will be shown prominently on the search result page and could be styled differently than the regular listings. And if the position gets fulfilled, you can update the entry by checking the ‘Position Filled‘ box. It is also possible to set an expiry date for the listing.

And the last option of the section enables you to choose the user who posted the listing.

On the right side, you will find some more options. First of all, you can select a category for the listing. And the next one allows you to choose the listing type. There are some default options for freelance, full-time, internship, part-time, and temporary. You can also add new listing type by clicking the ‘+Add New Listing Type‘ link.

The next section is titled ‘Gallery Images‘. As you can guess, this section enables you to add image gallery for the listing. Once you have provided all the necessary information, click ‘Publish‘. The listing is now published for the visitors.

In order to view all the listings, go to Listings -> All Listings. From this page, you can preview, delete or edit any listing. You can also view the listing name, location, posting date, expiry date, and categories for the listings. And if you want to manage the categories and types, go to the ‘Categories‘ and ‘Types‘ sub-pages respectively.

The available settings options for your listings are located in the Listings -> Settings page. The page is divided into three sections – Listing, Submission, and Pages.

In the Listing section, you can choose how many listing to display per page, hide filled and expired listings, enable categories and allow choosing multiple categories per listing.

In the Submission section, you can elect to allow unregistered users to submit a listing. There are also options to enable them to create an account, choose the default account role, moderate new submissions, listing duration period, etc.

And lastly, the ‘Pages‘ sub-section enables you to choose separate pages for the submit listing, listing dashboard and all listings pages. After making all the changes, don’t forget to click ‘Save Changes.’

Other Theme Options

Besides the features discussed above, Listable also comes with some other interesting options. First of all, the theme allows you to make some extra money on the website. There are several ways to do that. The easiest way is to sell listings packages to your visitors. Alternatively, you can sell subscription packages by using the WooCommerce Subscriptions plugin. It is also possible to introduce other money-making methods like selling reservations, physical or digital products, etc.

    Creating directory sites quickly was always a trouble and a difficult task to accomplish. However, with the new theme of WordPress known as the Listable is an apt tool with unique features that is really helpful in creating many directory sites in a short period.
